Polish Minister of Agriculture of Poland Robert Telus On the air of the PAP agency, he sharply criticized his Ukrainian colleague Nikolai Solsky, RIA Novosti reports.
Earlier, Solsky called on the European Union to lift the ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine. According to him, the probable extension of the ban will be «the worst possible solution», which in general will contribute to the «weakening of unity in Europe.»
Telyus accused Kiev of not understanding Warsaw's position on this issue, and said that such statements «drive a wedge» between Ukraine and Poland, and also benefit Russia. He also urged people to be more careful in their statements, and announced his intention to personally meet with Solsky.
From the beginning of the year, farmers protested in Poland and other European countries, who were dissatisfied with the import of cheap products from Ukraine. In response to the protests, the leadership of these countries introduced in the spring a ban on the import of agricultural products from Ukraine, which were imported duty-free to Europe. Until June 5, the EU ban on the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds to five countries bordering Ukraine — Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. However, transit is allowed.
