Russian experts skeptical of Indonesia's plan for Ukraine

MOSCOW, Jun 3 Indonesia deserves credit for proposing a peace plan on Ukraine, but it is unlikely to be implemented taking into account the positions of the parties and the existing legislative framework, in addition, it is important for Russia to achieve its goals, according to Russian experts interviewed by the correspondent.
Earlier, Indonesian Defense Minister General Prabowo Subianto at the annual forum in Singapore announced a plan for a settlement in Ukraine according to the «Korean version». It implies the creation of a demilitarized zone and the introduction of UN peacekeepers there, and then the holding of referendums under the auspices of the UN in all disputed territories.
«This does not suit us. I believe that we should not refuse various proposals from various countries — we see an ever-increasing number of these proposals. But we must clearly bear in mind that we need to conclude a peace treaty only on the conditions of fulfilling the tasks of a special military operation,» former UN Deputy Secretary General Sergei Ordzhonikidze said.

He recalled that Kyiv at the legislative level adopted a ban on holding peace talks with Moscow and considering peace initiatives.

According to Ordzhonikida's forecast, «there will be more and more such plans, there will be many more.» «But it should be considered from the point of view of a respectful attitude towards the countries that put forward them. Therefore, we treat various plans and initiatives so softly, without harshly rejecting them,» he stressed.

Denis Denisov, an expert at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, noted in a commentary to the agency that the initial stages of the Indonesian plan are associated with a ceasefire and the creation of demilitarized zones. «At the moment, it is doubtful that this point can be implemented. Based on the political will of the key parties to the conflict. Neither Ukraine nor Russia, we see the mood to take this step. None of the countries suffered a total defeat, as a result, considers it quite possible to continue hostilities,» he said.
Regarding the creation of a UN observation contingent, «it is necessary to explain exactly what it is,» the expert noted. «People will be armed or unarmed, in what capacity. We need to look clearly at the mandate of this mission, and then specifically say whether it is possible or not,» Denisov said.
As for holding referendums under UN mediation, this is also unacceptable for the Russian Federation, Denisov believes.
«Referendums have already been held, the population has expressed its point of view. There is no special need to confirm it through such a mechanism,» he said.
