NOVA KAKHOVKA (Kherson region), June 6 Committee of Russia examined the site of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and recorded the damage, the correspondent reports.
The upper part of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, located in the Kherson region, has been destroyed, Vladimir Leontiev, the head of the administration of the Novokakhovka urban district, said on Tuesday morning. According to him, this happened as a result of a series of strikes by Ukrainian troops last night. The blow was delivered, presumably, from the MLRS «Alder». The incident led to flooding of territories located down the Dnieper.
The IAEA said that, aware of reports of damage to the Kakhovskaya HPP, the agency's experts at the Zaporizhzhya NPP are monitoring the situation, but there is no security threat at the plant's nuclear power plant at the moment. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that he would visit the Zaporozhye NPP next week.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kiev regime blew up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station in order to transfer troops to the area of their offensive operations from the Kherson direction, weakening their positions there. The minister noted that Kyiv had committed a terrorist attack, blowing up the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, which led to the flooding of large areas.
Kakhivska hydroelectric power plant is the sixth (lower and last) stage of the cascade of Dnieper hydroelectric power plants, located five kilometers from the city of Novaya Kakhovka, Kherson region, which became part of Russia following a referendum on September 30, 2022.
