MOSCOW, June 7 Permanent representatives of the EU countries may agree on the 11th package of sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, Politico reported, citing five diplomats .
At the same time, as reported, some issues still remain open, and the permanent representatives have yet to reach agreements on them.
Thus, the new package is dedicated to the fight against circumvention of sanctions, as well as restrictive measures against countries that help Russia in this. However, some EU countries, including Germany, fear that new sanctions could harm their relations with countries such as China and Turkey. It is reported that the EU has already softened the initial initiatives of the European Commission on this issue. In addition, Hungary and Greece intend to block the adoption of a new package of sanctions until Ukraine removes some companies from these countries from the list of «war sponsors».
On February 25, the European Union introduced the tenth package of sanctions against Russia, which expanded export-import and personal restrictions, as well as new bans on the work of Russian media. The European Commission has estimated a new package of sanctions at 11.4 billion euros. At the same time, the EU noted that now the EU's exports to Russia have decreased by almost half compared to the level of 2021, and imports to the EU have been cut, respectively, by almost 60%.
The West stepped up sanctions pressure on Russia over Ukraine, which led to higher prices for electricity, fuel and food in Europe and the United States. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that the policy of containment and weakening of Russia is a long-term strategy of the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people. The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that Russia will solve all the problems that the West creates for it.February 16, 12 :32InfographicsEU anti-Russian sanctions: analysis of all packages
