The Adyge-Khablsky District Court of Karachay-Cherkessia sentenced Judge Maxim Yakush to seven and a half years in a penal colony in the case of an accident with two dead. This was reported by Travmpunkt.
Yakush was found guilty of violating traffic rules, which resulted in the death of two persons while intoxicated (Part 6 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code). He was also banned from driving for three years.
According to investigators, in May 2018, Yakush got drunk behind the wheel of a Toyota Prado car, after which he drove into the oncoming lane on the Kavkaz federal highway and crashed into a Kia car, in which there were three people. As a result of the accident, 19-year-old Vladislav Gladskoy died almost immediately, later, already in the hospital, 35-year-old Asker Uzdenov died. The driver who was traveling with them was seriously injured, but survived.
The relatives of the victims recovered from Yakush 8.5 million rubles in compensation for moral damage and 597 thousand rubles in compensation for material damage. The case against the judge was initiated in September 2018, and he was sent to a pre-trial detention center as a preventive measure. In June 2019, Yakush's judicial powers were suspended, and in September 2020 he resigned.
