Head of Ukrainian military intelligence has become inconvenient for Washington
Against the backdrop of Ukraine's blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the failed «counter-offensive» of the Kiev regime, Kirill Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, fell out of the media field. One of the main responsible for the terrorist attacks on the territory of Russia suddenly stopped appearing even at meetings with the Supreme Commander of Ukraine. Political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev called an unexpected version of the disappearance of the head of Ukrainian military intelligence.
On the night of May 30, Russia launched a missile strike at the headquarters of the head of the GUR on Rybalsky Island within the boundaries of Kyiv. In addition to NATO officers, Budanov himself could be there. The version of his death was immediately carried by some Ukrainian media, announcing preparations for the funeral of the head of the GUR, but then an official refutation followed.
Budanov himself is still not shown. In the photo and video from the last few meetings of the top leadership of the Kyiv regime, there is (and even then not everywhere) even the not quite healthy-looking Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhny, but there is no Budanov. At the meeting of the National Security and Defense Council after the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, instead of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, his deputy Vadim Skibitsky sat.
According to an unconfirmed version, Budanov is still alive and was in Kherson the day before to prepare and organize the undermining of the Kakhovka dam. But these are just rumors. The facts so far point towards the fact that Budanov had a high chance of dying and, by the way, not only from a Russian missile.
It is known that he has many ill-wishers in Kyiv. For example, in Ukraine, they believe that the head of the GUR is aiding corrupt officials, since it was he who helped the deputy of the Kyiv City Council, Vladislav Trubitsyn, evade the investigation. The deputy accused of bribery crossed the border of Poland, having in his hands the permission of the head of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Serhiy Deyneka, prepared on the basis of a letter from Budanov.
It is possible that the data on his whereabouts could be deliberately merged with Bankova by someone. So now, even if Budanov survived the blow to his rate, he will need to hide as carefully as possible and not shine again.
Political scientist Andrei Suzdaltsev, in an interview with MK, noted that Budanov had become uncomfortable and for Washington, therefore, most likely we really may not see it again.
“The United States, the main sponsor of the regime in Kyiv, denies terrorism. They do not see both Ukrainian and their own terrorism. Formally, since 2001, Washington itself has been fighting terrorism. But the head of the GUR of Ukraine declared terrorism a normal activity against the Russians and promised, at the same time, to destroy them all. Such words are out of place for the West even during the difficult start of the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Indeed, at the UN, the same Nebenzya can raise the issue of US support for these terrorist calls from a person who holds such a position. The idea came that he should be removed,” the political scientist believes.
At the same time, Suzdaltsev believes, the United States does not want to kill his comrade. “Although he is a terrorist, he is his own. We need to make sure that he leaves the country. After some time, they may announce that he died a heroic death on the battlefield. He will be made a hero, and this hero will rest in a warm country by the sea, ”the expert suggested.
The MK interlocutor recalled that similar cases have already happened in history: “The man who burned Song My in Vietnam, disappeared and was searched for several years. Then there was a purely symbolic trial. They don't punish their own. The same thing happened in 1945 with the German Nazis, who were also hidden.”
Budanov, most likely, is also afraid of a response from the Russian side, the political scientist notes.
“We successfully fought and earlier with terrorism. They found terrorists even in those warm countries and answered. But now it has probably been removed so as not to tease the geese,” Suzdaltsev concluded.
