Washington accused two Russians of hacking a crypto exchange in 2011

WASHINGTON, June 9 US authorities charged Russian citizens Alexei Bilyuchenko and Alexander Werner with hacking into the Mt. Gox in 2011, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement released Friday.
«(U.S. authorities) announced that they have filed charges against Alexei Bilyuchenko and Alexander Werner, who are Russian citizens. Bilyuchenko and Werner are accused of conspiring to launder about 647 000 bitcoins obtained from the Mt. Gox hack in 2011. Bilyuchenko faces a separate charge in the Northern District of California of conspiring with Alexander Vinnik to operate an illegal BTC cryptocurrency exchange from 2011 to 2017,» the Justice Department said.
If found guilty, each of the Russians faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. In addition, if Bilyuchenko is found guilty of conspiring with Vinnik, he faces an additional sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
