MOSCOW, June 11, Alena Sulizova. International Skating Union ( ISU) is a led organization that cannot keep sport out of politics, said Olympic ice dancing champion Natalya Bestemyanova.
On Sunday, the ISU announced that the board of the organization decided to study the feasibility of implementing at competitions under the auspices of the organization the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes in a neutral status. At the moment, the ISU Council upheld the removal of Russians and Belarusians.
“Of course, there was hope that our people would be allowed in, but it is clear that until some cardinal changes happen, nothing will happen in sports either, because, unfortunately, all these organizations, like the ISU, are very driven and cannot keep sport out of politics. But I always hope for the best,» Bestemyanova said.
