Reuters: Kazakh President Tokayev will not visit Russia for SPIEF
Kazakh President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev will not take part in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum this year, Reuters reports citing the country's government press service.< /p>
It is indicated that Kazakhstan will be represented at SPIEF by Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar and Deputy Minister of Economy Timur Zhaksylykov. The reasons for the absence of the head of state at events in St. Petersburg are not reported.
In 2022, Tokayev took part in the SPIEF plenary meeting, during which he made a number of high-profile statements. In particular, he refused to recognize the independence of the DNR and LNR. A number of sources also stated that the Kremlin was going to present Tokaev with the Order of Alexander Nevsky, but he refused the award. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov later stated that no one was going to reward Tokaev.
