MOSCOW, June 9. The painting, stolen 60 years ago, was found at an auction in Middelburg, Zeeland, Netherlands, writes Telegraaf.
It is about the work of «l'Interno Benedicente». Its author is the late Renaissance artist Galeazzo Campi (1475–1536). The cost of the work is estimated at five thousand euros. In 1959, it was removed from the Civico Ala Ponzone Museum in Cremona. An employee of the Italian institution recognized the painting presented at the auction and called the police.
According to Richard Bronswijk from the Dutch police department for the investigation of crimes in the field of art, the person who put the painting up for auction buys art objects from houses, in particular, after their death tenants.
«It turned out that he had owned it for some time, but he could not remember where the picture came from. The most important thing for us is that the work was found. The Italians were delighted,» Bronswijk noted.
How the Campi painting ended up in the Netherlands has not yet been clarified. The work will be returned to the museum in Cremona.
