The Zheleznodorozhny District Court of Simferopol arrested Eldar Mensitov, a former member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, for 15 days under a protocol of disobedience to the police (Article 19.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). It is reported by «Crimean solidarity».
According to the card on the website of the court, the activist was arrested on Saturday, June 10th. Mensitov's lawyer Safiye Shabanova said that the police detained her client on June 9 at the exit from Simferopol. According to her, the masked men took the Crimean Tatar to the «basement where they interrogated and used illegal methods of interrogation.» Shabanova said she saw «traces of physical impact» on Mensitov.
The activist's wife, Elvira Mensitova, says her husband last contacted her on June 8. Later, his car was found in the parking lot of the Crimean Privoz market in Simferopol.
According to the police, during the arrest the activist resisted and tried to escape. According to «Grati», at the trial Mensitov insisted that he was not on the street, which is indicated in the protocol as the place of the offense.
In September 2021, Eldar Mensitov's house was searched in connection with the damage to a gas pipeline in the village of Perevalnoye near Simferopol. According to the publication «Grati», this time the security forces interrogated him about his involvement in the sabotage on the railway in the Bakhchisarai region, which occurred on February 23.
In early May, the FSB reported on the detention of seven people in Crimea in connection with the supply of explosives to the peninsula and preparations for the assassination of the governor. According to the security officials, they are also involved in the undermining of the railway tracks on February 23.
