KAZAN, June 13Destructive activity in cyberspace creates serious challenges, but Tatarstan has the necessary capabilities to solve the problem of ensuring sovereignty in the IT sphere, said the head of the republic, Rustam Minnikhanov.
On Tuesday, Minnikhanov took part in a meeting of the Association for the Promotion of Digital Development of the Republic, which discussed issues of ensuring cybersecurity and sovereignty in the IT sphere, the press service of the head of the republic reports.
“Tatarstan has all the necessary resources to make a significant contribution to the solution of this critical task. About 12 thousand people study in computer and information sciences at 21 republican universities. Over the past five years, the number of students in these specialties in the republic increased by 40%, and the target figures for admission at the expense of the federal budget increased by 1.5 times,» Minnikhanov said.
He drew attention to the fact that in the recently approved long-term state program of scientific and technological development of the republic, the digital industry is singled out as an independent track, the annual amount of expenses for the implementation and use of achievements in the field of information technology has increased by almost half over the past five years. Three universities producing IT personnel acted as platforms for the creation of advanced engineering schools. They have already started building the next generation of research and engineering competencies for high-tech enterprises.
«Certainly, we still have a lot to do to ensure sustainable and balanced digital development. Serious challenges are facing us in connection with the growing destructive activity in cyberspace… The information services of the state and its educational resources, which directly concern our citizens, must function reliably in any time,» Minnikhanov stressed.
According to Aidar Guzairov, General Director of the Innostoyge group of companies, more than 100 hacker groups are attacking the Russian segment of the Internet, the damage from their actions by the end of 2022 is estimated at more than 150 billion rubles. The coordinated work of the cybersecurity industry has avoided more damage to the country, however, the situation remains acute.
He noted that last year a project was launched for an interuniversity cyber threat countermeasures center based on four universities: Kazan National Research Technical University, Kazan Federal University, Kazan State Energy University and Innopolis University. The main objective of the project is to increase the level of information security of Russian universities. Students will be able to increase their knowledge in the field of security, monitoring and incident response. As a result, the number of university graduates prepared for real-world work is expected to increase significantly.
