On Wednesday morning, the Kuban headquarters reported that as a result of heavy rains in Sochi, the Matsesta River, which flows through the Khostinsky district of the resort, overflowed its banks, flooded the adjacent territories, basements of buildings, and cars. According to the Sochi mayor's office, as a result of bad weather, gas pipeline networks were also damaged, roads in the area were flooded. A mobile operational headquarters is currently working on the spot, all response services are involved.
“The water in the Khostinsky district of Sochi has receded, the water level in the Matsesta River has decreased,” said the agency’s interlocutor in the GUMCHS. According to Deputy Mayor of Sochi Vadim Snegirev, at the moment there are no victims or injured as a result of the flooding of the Matsesta River, 184 people, 42 pieces of equipment are involved in the work to eliminate the consequences of bad weather.
By order of the mayor of the city, Alexei Kopaygorodsky, the beaches in the city are closed for swimming. Now communal services are restoring the infrastructure, workers are clearing roads, for this period the urban transport scheme in the Matsesta microdistrict has been changed.
The press service of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations said that 10 adjacent territories were flooded as a result of heavy rains, but water did not enter the houses of residents of the microdistrict . The resort is currently assessing the damage caused by the weather, and a storm warning remains in effect until Wednesday.
