St. Petersburg, June 15 The Federal Passenger Company (FPC, a subsidiary of Russian Railways) still has about 10% of long-distance passenger cars with gravity toilets in its fleet and includes they are becoming less and less frequent, said Vladimir Pyastolov, CEO of the company, in an interview at SPIEF 2023.
In August 2018, a representative of Russian Railways said that at that time, when there were about 19 thousand passenger cars in the park, dry closets were in 54.9% of the holding's long-distance trains. At present, the fleet of FPC is more than 16,000 railcars.
«Yes, there are still such cars in our fleet. They make up about 10% of the total number of rolling stock and are included in all trains less often,» Pyastolov answered the question whether the FPC still had trains with gravity toilets.
He stated that it is impossible to upgrade all the cars at the same time.
«We have the largest fleet in Europe. However, despite all attempts at sanctions pressure, we, together with our partners, TVZ (Tver Carriage Works, part of Transmashholding JSC — ed.) and Vagonremmash, are successfully continuing implement this investment program,» Pyastolov said.
