St. Petersburg, June 15This year, hackers have shifted their focus to large companies, having previously trained in small and medium-sized businesses, Anna Kulashova, managing director of Kaspersky Lab in Russia and the CIS, said in an interview on the sidelines of SPIEF.
According to Kaspersky Lab, at the beginning of 2023, 33% more significant databases of Russian companies were published than a year earlier.
«In 2022, the ads were mostly about leaks in medium and small businesses. Obviously, attackers trained on them. This year they shifted their focus to large companies. This is one of the trends that we see this year,» — Kulashova noted.
And once hackers get access to the data of a large company, the amount of data leaked increases significantly compared to what hackers could get from small and medium-sized businesses, she explained.
At the same time, the top manager noted that it is difficult to conclude from this that now small and medium-sized businesses are not being attacked so intensively. «Rather, attackers understand that the return on their efforts when attacking a large company can be higher. Moreover, when choosing a victim, they are often guided by the potential resonance of the attack,» Kulashova said.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) takes place on June 14-17. is an information partner and host photo agency of the forum.
