BRUSSELS, June 15 EU agrees certain measures against self-proclaimed Kosovo as a reaction to the ongoing escalation in the region, and as a tool to show that the EU is serious about waiting for a de-escalation, these measures could be stepped up, Peter Stano, spokesman for the union's foreign service, said at a briefing in Brussels.
The day before, Stano said that the EU intends to limit funding to Kosovo and stop high-level visits due to its refusal to promote de-escalation.
«These are not sanctions or restrictive measures… Now we are talking about some measures-tools to show that we are serious about our expectations for de-escalation, as well as about our reaction if such a de-escalation is not is happening… These measures are temporary, they can be strengthened or canceled. They include the suspension of visits, committee meetings, planned events, as well as our financial cooperation with Kosovo,» the representative of the EU external service explained.
He declined to comment on whether such measures could include the suspension of the visa easing agreement with Kosovo, which should take effect from January 2024. «I don't want to go into details, our partners in Kosovo are aware of what we think and our expectations,» Stano replied.
He also added that the EU «is still waiting for Kurti to take the necessary steps to de-escalate».
