The «First Department» published a video showing employees of IK-5 in Mordovia beating a convict on a case of treason and wringing his hands

The human rights project «First Department» published a video with violent actions against ex-policeman Yevgeny Chistov, convicted in a case of high treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code).

On the video, employees of correctional colony No. 5 in Mordovia they wring Chistov's hands and inflict several blows on him, then loud screams of the prisoner and the sounds of blows are heard, at the end the convict is dragged into the cell by force. «"First Department" declares that the torture of suspects, accused and convicted under Art. 275 is the norm for the security forces,” human rights activists emphasized.

The reason for beating Chistov was the convict’s refusal to move to another cell, in which, in his opinion, a mentally ill person was kept. Previously, the ex-policeman had a conflict with him. According to human rights activists, the incident took place in May 2021.

Chistov himself said that physical force was used on him four times in the colony. “Special means (gas) were used twice, they also tried to drive me to suicide (there was a scar on my arm). I accuse the prosecutor's office and the Investigative Committee of covering up torture, as well as inaction when addressing them with allegations of bullying, ”the First Department quotes the convict.

Chistov's wife applied to the PMC of Mordovia about bullying her husband, the relatives of the convict also wrote complaints to the head of IK-5 Valery Trofimov, the prosecutor for overseeing compliance with laws in correctional institutions Viktor Isaikin and the head of the regional department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Mordovia Leonid Mustaikin . According to human rights activists, there was no response to the complaints.

In November 2015, the Moscow Regional Court sentenced the former Chistov to 13 years in a strict regime colony, finding him guilty of high treason. According to investigators, the police officer was passing secret data on the activities of the Russian Interior Ministry to the United States for three years.
