The state prosecution requested 5.5 years in prison for Zarema Musayeva in the case of violence against a security official

During a debate in a court in Chechnya, the state prosecution asked Zarema Musaeva, wife of former Chechen judge Saydi Yangulbaev, to be sentenced to five and a half years in a general regime colony, who is accused of violence against a security official (part 2 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the Team Against Torture.

In January 2022, the security forces kidnapped Musaeva from Nizhny Novgorod and forcibly took her to Grozny. After that, she was arrested for 15 days, and then the woman was sent to a pre-trial detention center on a criminal case. According to Ramzan Kadyrov, while being transported from Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny, a woman «attacked a police officer and almost took his eye.»

On June 5, it became known that Musaeva was hospitalized. According to Abubakar Yangulbaev, after a year and a half in the pre-trial detention center, her eyesight worsened and back pain progressed, which is why Musaeva cannot move independently — she is transported in a wheelchair.

“She cannot use walks, She has a hard time suing. And the most dangerous is second-degree diabetes, which requires constant monitoring and treatment to curb progression,” wrote the human rights activist. A few weeks earlier, a court in Grozny had decided that her health was «not in doubt.»

Members of Musayeva's family fled Russia, fearing for their lives, following Kadyrov's threats and charges of terrorism. The Ministry of Justice entered the Chechen People's Movement Adat, better known as the telegram channel 1ADAT, founded by Ibragim Yangulbaev, one of Musaeva's sons, into the register of extremist organizations.
