Students participating in the war in Ukraine, studying at Russian universities on a paid basis, will be given the opportunity to switch to free education “as a matter of priority”. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova at a meeting with Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
The official also added that participants in the invasion of Ukraine will be able to enter universities on separate quotas. Relevant changes will begin from the next academic year. “To this end, the government is empowered to establish the procedure for redistributing vacant budgetary places in educational institutions of higher education,” Golikova specified.
In addition, war veterans will also be given the opportunity to study free of charge at preparatory courses for entering universities. Similar opportunities will also be provided to the children of healthcare workers who died during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Golikova, in the near future these initiatives will be legalized.
