MOSCOW, June 20 Ukrainian forces may find themselves in the Zaporozhye direction in a situation similar to the situation of the Nazi troops near Kursk, wrote an American expert, senior researcher at the Center for Security Policy and the Yorktown Institute's Steven Brien in an article for Asia Times.

According to him, the scale of the Battle of Kursk significantly exceeds the current hostilities in the Zaporozhye direction, but in many other respects the situations of 2023 and 1943 are similar. Brian pointed to such similarities as the active use of armored vehicles and mines, as well as the improved tactical qualities of the Russian side. But the expert considers the consequences of the battles to be the main similarity.
The difference between the situation in the Zaporizhia direction and the Battle of Kursk also, according to Brian, plays into the hands of Russia.
«The Russians are also defending themselves, but effectively repel Ukrainian attacks. We know little about Russian losses in equipment and manpower, but it seems that Ukrainian attacks successfully fought back — and at a high cost to Ukraine and its Western allies. Some of the attacking Ukrainian brigades are practically defeated, and some rolled back without success, «the author explained.
Brian also recalled the losses of the Armed Forces of Western armored vehicles — Leopard tanks and Bradley armored vehicles.
