Head of Rosneft Oil Company Igor Sechin delivered a keynote speech at the Energy Panel at the XXVI SPIEF. In it, he said that the attempt of Western countries to implement the green transition has already led to disastrous consequences for the global economy.

The actions of irresponsible regulators have effectively banned investments in conventional energy,” he said, speaking with keynote speech at the Energy Panel at the XXVI St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
In his opinion, the adherents of the «green energy transition», having no clearly defined goals, sound technologies and understanding of the long-term consequences of their actions, launched a process that gave rise to a crisis in the global energy sector and unleashed inflation on world markets.
» All this was exacerbated by the impact of the pandemic,” said Igor Sechin.
He also noted that world practice and experience show that a combination of a number of factors that have not been taken into account, and some of them cannot be taken into account, leads to disasters. A chain of unforeseen circumstances is added to the fundamental reasons, he explained. “The same unaccounted factor in the already launched fall of global markets could, and still can become, a US default,” said the head of Rosneft.
As an example, he cited the largest man-made disasters of our time. He recalled that at the Fukushima-1 NPP, the General Electric project provided for reliable seismic protection, but the tsunami factor was not taken into account — although the station is located on the ocean. “This experience comes after the fact – you cannot place such objects on the coast in seismic zones,” emphasized Igor Sechin.
Another example is the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya HPP. The risk of destruction of the dam arose due to the flood that followed the set of vibrations and water hammer. “We managed to build a drainage tunnel and a water velocity suppression system with a volume of two Niagaras (we managed to put it into operation just a few days before the start of the flood). It was a terrible time,» said Sechin, who in 2009, as Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government in charge of the fuel and energy complex, headed the government commission for the restoration of hydroelectric power stations.
Igor Sechin also described in his report the methods by which Western civilization achieves everything she needs. “Western civilization, whose prosperity was ensured through such tools as colonization, slavery, the Inquisition, up to the use of nuclear weapons against civilians in the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which claimed the lives of more than half a million people, has shown that the main method of interaction for them is coercion,” said the head of the oil company.
