MOSCOW, June 22 The intention of Western countries to bring down the Belarusian economy with the help of unprecedentedly large-scale sanctions did not work, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy said in an interview.
According to him, the initiators of the sanctions counted on the fall of the Belarusian economy from 20 to 30%. In fact, the ambassador noted, half of the Belarusian industrial sectors are under direct sanctions, and some are under indirect ones. He called the sanctions pressure on the country unprecedented.
“You can say that this plan failed,” the ambassador said.
According to him, this is evidenced by the indicators of the country's economy, whose inhabitants «on the horizon of two years did not feel the impact of sanctions.»
«Last year, the decline in our GDP was 4.7%, and according to the results of five months of 2023, the Belarusian economy showed an increase of 0.9%. The government's plans for annual growth by 3, 8 (percent — ed.) and on the horizon of two years — the full restoration of both industrial, and agricultural, and construction potential is absolutely real, absolutely relevant and, I think, they are achievable,» said Krutoy.
