The icon «Trinity» by Andrei Rublev only began to be exhibited outside the walls of the State Tretyakov Gallery only in the late 90s, said Elena Saenkova, head of the department of ancient Russian art of the State Tretyakov Gallery. For this, special conditions were created for storing the masterpiece.
“Since 1997, the icon has been regularly brought to the church of St. Nicholas in Tolmachi to participate in the festive divine service on the Day of the Holy Trinity. this «Trinity» was examined by the restorers, who gave their opinion on the possibility of transferring the icon,» Saenkova said.
At the same time, the icon has never left the borders of Russia and even Moscow, when, for example, Leonardo Da Vinci's La Gioconda and other world masterpieces regularly «travel» around the world.
“Unfortunately, the fragile construction required and still requires careful and careful attitude. And it is no coincidence that, despite its general fame, the Holy Trinity never left the country and Moscow,” the expert emphasized.
«Trinity» was written by Rublev in the 15th century, until 1917 it was in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Then in the Sergiev Posad Museum, and since 1929 — in the Tretyakov Gallery.
