WASHINGTON Jun 24 sanctions against PMC «Wagner» in order not to create the impression of solidarity with one of the parties to the situation in Russia, writes the business edition of the Wall Street Journal.
According to the newspaper, new sanctions against Wagner were planned to be announced on Tuesday.
«Washington doesn't want to look like it's taking sides on this,» an unnamed source quoted the Wall Street Journal as saying.
PMC «Wagner» is under US sanctions, which declared it a «transnational criminal organization».
On Saturday night in Rostov-on-Don, PMC «Wagner» seized the headquarters of the Southern Military District. Groups of armed people moved around the city, checkpoints were set up at the entrances and exits. This happened against the backdrop of statements by Yevgeny Prigozhin about allegedly inflicted by the Russian Armed Forces missile and bomb attacks on the camps of PMC «Wagner» — this was refuted by both the Ministry of Defense and the FSB. On Saturday evening, the press service of the President of Belarus reported that Alexander Lukashenko held talks with Prigozhin, as a result of which agreements were reached «on the inadmissibility of unleashing a bloody massacre on the territory of Russia.» Prigozhin, according to the press service of Lukashenka, accepted the proposal of the President of Belarus to stop the movement of armed persons of the Wagner company in Russia and take further steps to de-escalate tension.
