How to protect your heart during the heat: 5 tips from cardiologists

The American Heart Association has published guidelines for people over 50 with heart disease or overweight.

The American Heart Association recalled that when the ambient temperature is high, the body tries to cool itself by redistributing more blood from the internal organs to the skin. This can put more stress on your heart.

“If you have heart disease, are over 50, and are overweight, you should take special precautions to protect your heart.” said Donald Lloyd-Jones of Northeastern University, speaker of the American Heart Association.

Lloyd-Jones pointed out that many of the drugs taken by «cores» can exacerbate the effect of heat on the body and contribute to a deterioration in well-being. He emphasized that, despite this, their reception should not be interrupted.

5 rules from the American Heart Association:

  • Keep a watch. It's best not to stay outside when the sun is at its strongest — between noon and 3 pm.
  • Dress appropriately. Clothing should be light, light, breathable fabric (cotton or modern materials that repel sweat). To this should be added a hat and sunglasses. Sunscreen with a factor of at least 15 should be applied to exposed skin.
  • Drink. You should drink two glasses of water before going out, during it, or during exercise. Drinks containing alcohol or caffeine should be avoided.
  • Take breaks. In shady places, you can stop for a few minutes, drink water, and then continue on your way.
  • Follow the instructions of your doctor.

It is important to know the signs that indicate overheating. Symptoms of heat exhaustion:

  • headache,
  • excessive sweating,
  • cold and damp skin, chills,
  • dizziness, fainting,
  • weak and rapid pulse,
  • muscle cramps,
