One of the founders of lithium-ion batteries Goodenough has died

WASHINGTON, June 26 One of the creators of lithium-ion batteries, John Goodenough, has died at the age of 101, the University of Texas, where the scientist worked, said on his website.
«John B. Goodenough, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin who is internationally renowned for developing the lithium-ion battery, passed away Sunday at the age of 100,» the press release said.
Native of Germany , Goodenough has worked in leading research centers in the US and UK. Heading the laboratory of inorganic chemistry at Oxford, he made the main discovery of his life — he adapted cathodes based on lithium iron phosphate for use in batteries. It formed the basis of the modern industry of mobile computers, telephones and electric vehicles.

In 2019, Goodenough received the Nobel Prize, sharing it with two scientists who developed the same direction.
