Russia has found a potential basis for new antibiotics

MOSCOW, 20 Jun. The antimicrobial activity of chitosan aspartate nanoparticles was studied by SSU scientists together with colleagues from Ural Federal University. According to them, the previously synthesized compound can become the basis for a number of new drugs, including antibiotics. The results are published in the journal Microbiology.
Chitosan is a derivative of the natural polymer chitin, a key element of the arthropod exoskeleton. This compound has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal effects. Under certain conditions, the substance is capable of exhibiting antitoxic, immunostimulating and anti-inflammatory activity, the scientists said. ria.ru/20230615/nauka-1878030361.html» data->
A team of researchers from Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky (SSU), together with colleagues from Ural Federal University, previously synthesized chitosan aspartate, a derivative of chitosan and L-aspartic acid. The new work of the team is devoted to the study of the biological activity of nanoparticles of this compound, which, according to the creators, has great prospects in pharmacology and biotechnology.

To obtain nanoparticles, the scientific team has developed a new method, according to them, not described in the world and domestic literature.

«The addition of nanoparticles of our compound led to the mass death of staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. In the future, we intend to use these properties of our compound to develop new antibiotics.

Compound, as scientists explained, it is fully compatible with blood cells and other tissues of the body. Biotesting has shown that nanoparticles of the new compound are capable of accelerating the growth of connective tissue cells by several times.
«The results obtained by us suggest that chitosan aspartate nanoparticles can be widely used in the creation of fundamentally new types of dosage forms and vaccines, and will also are in demand in various biological and pharmacological technologies,» Shipovskaya noted.

In the future, the research team intends to continue studying the properties of chitosan aspartate nanoparticles.
