Ural scientists found 400 kilograms of ancient bones in a cave in Khakassia

Representatives of the press service of the Ural Federal University (UrFU) told URA.RU that Ural scientists discovered 400 kilograms of bones of ancient mammoths, cave hyenas and rhinos in the Ineyskaya cave in Khakassia.

It is noted that the Ural scientists found in the cave intact remains belonging to the ancient mammoth, rhinoceros, bison, yak, deer and cave hyenas. As Dmitry Malikov, a specialist at the Institute of Geology and Mineralogy, noted, scientists were able to establish from the remains of a rhinoceros that the age of the finds is 42,000 years. He pointed out that the found remains would tell researchers about the flora and fauna of that time, the diet of animals and the climate in this area.

The press service specified that about 400 kilograms of the bones found would be sent to Yekaterinburg. According to scientists, the fact that the cave, discovered five years ago, is a den of hyenas, is confirmed by the gnawed bones and several remains found there in anatomical order.

Researcher of the Laboratories of Natural Science Methods in Humanitarian Studies of Ural Federal University and Paleoecology of the Institute of Plant Ecology and Animals of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Dmitry Gimranov explained that rhinos have ulna and radius bones together, which indicates that hyenas dragged parts of carcasses into their lair. In addition, he noted that researchers found many bones of puppies in the cave.
