KEMEROVO, June 27 Alexander Mamontov, former head of the Kemerovo Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations received 10.5 years in a penal colony in the case of a fire in the Zimnyaya Cherry shopping center, a correspondent reports from a meeting of the Central District Court.
«Assign Mamontov Alexander Sergeevich a sentence of ten and a half years in prison with a fine of 900 thousand rubles and with the deprivation of the right to hold positions in the public service <…> for a period of two years,» said judge Inna Mikhailenko.< br />There are two defendants in this case: Mamontov is charged with embezzlement and negligence, his former subordinate, chief state fire inspector Grigory Terentyev, is charged with fraud and negligence.
According to the investigation, knowing about violations of fire safety in the Zimnyaya Cherry shopping center, the defendants did not take measures to conduct an inspection, including through their fault, the fire acquired such a scale and consequences, since the fire extinguishing system was broken and emergency exits were closed.
The prosecutor's office asked the court to sentence Mamontov to 14 years in prison. The defendant denied his guilt at the trial and asked to be acquitted, since he worked within the framework of the current legislation. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia also insisted on his innocence.
In turn, Terentyev was sentenced to 8.5 years in a penal colony, while the prosecution asked for ten.

The fire in the four-story shopping center «Winter Cherry» in Kemerovo occurred on March 25, 2018. The fire was located on the top floor, where several cinema halls and children's play areas with attractions were located. 60 people died, most of them were children.
In total, four criminal cases were initiated in this case, 15 people became defendants.
