NIZHNY NOVGOROD, June 28A resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region, who stabbed a taxi driver for refusing to drive on a dirt road, was sentenced to 6.5 years in a strict regime colony, the regional investigation department of the RF IC reported.
The investigation and the court established that on the night of April 3, 2022, on a dirt road near the village of Belozerikha, Lyskovsky district, a drunk passenger stabbed him multiple times during a quarrel with a taxi driver. The victim offered active resistance to the attacker, was able to push the passenger out of the car and get to the district hospital. Doctors provided emergency medical care to the 39-year-old victim. As the investigators established, the defendant arrived in a taxi from Nizhny Novgorod. The driver refused to take the passenger along a dirt road to the Volga, which is why a quarrel arose.
A criminal case was initiated on attempted murder (Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The man pleaded not guilty. A measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen against him.
“By a court verdict, the defendant was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 6 years and 6 months to be served in a penal colony with a strict regime. The verdict has not entered into legal force,” the SUSK said.
