Nicaragua plans to use rubles or Nicaraguan cordobas to pay for wheat purchased in Russia. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nicaragua, Denis Moncada, shared this information in an interview with RIA Novosti.
In September 2022, the Minister of Finance of the Republic, Ivan Acosta, also told RIA Novosti about Nicaragua's intention to increase the volume of wheat purchases from Russian suppliers and readiness to consider new payment options.
The Nicaraguan Foreign Minister noted that in the future it is important for both countries — Russia and Nicaragua — to protect their financial sovereignty, including banking services and commercial transactions. Therefore, the country's authorities are striving to find flexible and mutually beneficial ways to regulate financial interactions, including within the framework of the wheat trade.
