MOSCOW, June 30 The launch of a new generation navigation satellite Glonass-K2 is scheduled for August 2023 Friday the general director of «Roscosmos» Yury Borisov.
«In August, we plan to launch the Glonass-K2 device, which will have a longer period of active existence and better accuracy characteristics,» Borisov said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Earlier, Roskosmos reported that the space complex of the GLONASS navigation system will receive the latest GLONASS-K2 satellites. The first launch was originally planned for 2022, but never took place.
New devices emit more navigational signals. If the Glonass-M, of which the orbital constellation now mainly consists, has five signals, then the Glonass-K has seven, and the Glonass-K2 has nine. In addition, the proportion of electronic components is gradually increasing on new satellites. It is expected that it will reach 100% by 2026.
