MOSCOW, June 28 Roscosmos has published the first image from the new Meteor-M No. 2-3 hydrometeorological satellite launched yesterday into orbit from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

"First data received from new hydrometeorological spacecraft "Meteor-M" No. 2-3, successfully launched on June 27, 2023 from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. All supporting systems are operating normally and without any remarks,” the publication says.
The photo taken with the low-resolution multi-zone scanning device (MSU-MR) captures Eastern Siberia.
The MSU-MR is designed for wide coverage (on a strip up to 2850 kilometers wide) of cloud cover and the underlying surface, including ice cover, with a resolution of up to a kilometer.
In addition, on board the new satellite there is a medium-resolution multi-channel survey system on a 900 km band with a resolution of 60 or 120 meters, an onboard radar system for scanning the Earth's surface in the radio range, as well as radiometric equipment for temperature and humidity sounding of the atmosphere in the microwave range, which is necessary for early forecasting of typhoons and hurricanes.
Also among the Meteora-M instruments No. 2-3 is an infrared Fourier spectrometer for obtaining temperature and humidity profiles in the troposphere and lower stratosphere and determining the total ozone content in the Earth's ozone layer, and a heliogeophysical instrumental complex, with the help of which the control of the radiation situation, the state of the magnetosphere, ionosphere and upper atmosphere is carried out.
A satellite weighing 3,250 kilograms was launched yesterday into an orbit with a height of 832 kilometers on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny cosmodrome. It is expected that it will replace the similar apparatus «Meteor-M» No. 2, which has been operating in orbit since 2014.
