WASHINGTON, June 30 The World Bank is well aware of the unacceptability of the risks of financing Ukraine, and therefore shifts them to the countries concerned, said a source in the Russian Directorate of the World Bank Group.
«The World Bank is well aware of all the risks associated with financing Ukraine, and in view of the fact that such risks are unacceptable for the World Bank itself, it shifts them to the interested states,» he said on condition of anonymity.
The interlocutor of the agency clarified that within the framework of the «Bretton Woods institutions, the main burden of financing Ukraine lies with the International Monetary Fund», while the World Bank «only monitors the targeted spending of the assistance provided.»
Earlier, the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank approved a $1.5 billion loan to Ukraine. The international organization reported that it was about the allocation of funds under the guarantees of the Japanese government.
Ukraine's Ministry of Finance also announced Thursday that Kyiv has received $1.215 billion in new grants from the United States and Finland through the World Bank's Donor Trust Fund.
