MINSK, Jul 2 Belarus never suggests itself mediators, but is ready, if necessary, to play a role in helping to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic Yuriy Ambrazevich said in an interview with STV.
«Our potential is well known, we will play our role if necessary. We never ask for intermediaries, the President has repeatedly stressed this. We are ready to provide everything we have, to share with whomever is necessary. And to provide result,» he said.
As the diplomat noted, if circumstances develop, Minsk will be «first in line» for participation in a peaceful settlement.
«There is an obvious interest of our country here «Belarus wants to be a participant in these negotiations, because we want security guarantees for ourselves. The main priority is that our skies remain peaceful. That our territory is never bombed is our main task. And that our people can fully develop,» Ambrazevich added.< br>Last autumn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree according to which his country will not enter into a dialogue with Russia as long as it is headed by Vladimir Putin. Moscow, for its part, has repeatedly noted its readiness to discuss the settlement of the conflict through diplomacy.
As the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov emphasized, now the Kremlin does not see the prerequisites for the situation to switch to a peaceful course. The official also pointed out that sovereignty over the new regions that became part of the country, as well as Crimea, was not subject to discussion.
