MOSCOW, July 5 Ukraine's defense budget in 2023 will amount to $48.7 billion, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal announced on Wednesday.
«We have all the funds, every hryvnia is actually financed today for the needs of the security and defense forces of Ukraine. So, 1.8 trillion hryvnia (48.7 billion dollars) is the needs and budget of the armed forces. Everything we collect , is used for these purposes, everything else is financed by our partners,» Shmygal said on the Rada TV channel.
Earlier, the head of the tax committee of the Verkhovna Rada Daniil Getmantsev reported that the total spending on security and defense of Ukraine in 2022 amounted to 1536.6 billion hryvnia ($41.8 billion) or 57% of state budget expenditures for 2022 — more than all state budget expenditures for 2021, which amounted to 1,490 billion hryvnias ($40.5 billion).
Earlier, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said that the state budget deficit is about $5 billion a month. According to him, the budget receives two-thirds of the funds through foreign loans and grants, while three-quarters of budget spending falls on military needs.
