WASHINGTON, Jul 8 US decision to supply Ukraine with cluster munitions demonstrates the hypocrisy of Washington, it will not help Kiev on the battlefield, but will endanger the lives of the civilian population, said Phil Giraldi, a former American intelligence analyst and founder of the Council for the National Interest.
The United States announced on Friday that it is transferring cluster munitions to Ukraine prohibited by an international convention that has been ratified by 123 countries, not including the United States and Ukraine. The Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Russian military, have already used cluster munitions to shell Donbass, in particular the large city of Donetsk. According to the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Igor Konashenkov, this suggests that the task of the Ukrainian troops is to kill the maximum number of civilians.
«This again demonstrates the hypocrisy of the Biden administration, which last year denounced the use of such weapons attributed to Russia,» said a former CIA analyst.
He believes that cluster munitions «will not ensure victory for Ukraine, which is losing a counteroffensive actively supported by NATO, bureaucrats from Europe and the United States to Russia», but «will kill the civilian population, and for many years their unexploded parts be a curse on farmland.»
Giraldi recalled that the United States has not signed international agreements on the prohibition of weapons, the use of which most countries equate to a war crime, the same as the use of chemical weapons.
