MOSCOW, July 7 Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for the Development of Civil Society Olga Zanko (ER) announced in her telegram channel that she had sent a request to the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation Konstantin Chuichenko with a request to recognize the writer Boris Akunin as a foreign agent.
«I think that Akunin, as a public figure with a clear anti-Russian position, should also be recognized by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent,» Zanko wrote. She clarified that this appeal was written when she noticed that one of the theaters in St. Petersburg was staging a play based on Akunin's work. She added that the writer lives abroad, and he is also a member of the anti-Russian organization «Real Russia», which «came out with calls to fight the authorities, change the constitutional order, and raise funds for Ukraine.»
According to the parliamentarian, a writer with an anti-Russian position cannot receive money for selling his works in Russia. «The writer lives abroad, but for some reason he easily tries to earn money here, including through plays and books,» she concluded.
