MOSCOW, July 9 By the end of June, Russia became the first supplier of gas to Spain in terms of volumes, according to data from the energy company Enagas.
Thus, over the month, Spain imported 7,673 gigawatt-hours of liquefied natural gas from Russia, which accounted for 26.8 percent of the total volume of purchases. From January to June, Spain purchased 41,145 gigawatt-hours of LNG from Russia.
Algeria ranks second after Russia, exporting 21 percent of the total gas to Spain, and third — the United States, which accounted for 18.5 percent.
At the beginning of the year, Russian gas imports to Spain increased by 151 percent — if in February 2022 it was 2174 gigawatt-hours, then a year later it increased to 5465 (17.2 percent of In March, the Spanish authorities urged importers not to sign new contracts with Moscow and to intensify the diversification of LNG supplies.
Today, Spain is positioning itself as a major gas hub capable of resolving the European energy crisis caused by the reduction in Russian fuel supplies. Moreover, it is emphasized that it has the most diversified list of suppliers: since the beginning of the year, more than 20 countries have been gas exporters to Spain.
