UN, Jul 12The statements of some members of the UN Security Council, made at a meeting on Tuesday, will be excellent material for investigating sabotage on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, said.
On Tuesday, a meeting of the Security Council, requested by Russia, dedicated to the problem of undermining the Nord Streams, was held.
US Deputy Ambassador to the UN Jeffrey Delaurentis accused Russia of «hypocrisy» and attempts to «use the Security Council as a platform for disinformation.» The diplomat said that Russia is talking about respect for sovereignty, «and itself invaded the territory of a neighbor.»
«We again categorically reject any allegations that the United States bears any responsibility for these attacks. This council should refuse to meet again (on this subject — ed.) Only to waste time, spread disinformation and divert attention from unjustified Kremlin aggression against Ukraine,» Delaurentis said.
Polyansky reacted to these words.
«I noticed that today's speech, which many of our Western colleagues devoted almost entirely to the Ukrainian crisis, makes it possible to clearly trace the cause-and-effect relationships that guided those who committed these crimes and those who covered them and are covering them,» Polyansky said.
«»Therefore, thank you very much. For this alone, it was worth holding our meeting today. I am convinced that this is excellent material for Russian, as well as future international investigations, and I think that the transcript of today's meeting deserves to become one of the documents, at least at its initial stage,» he stressed.
Explosions occurred on September 26, 2022 on two Russian gas export pipelines to Europe — Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Germany, Denmark and Sweden did not rule out targeted sabotage. The operator of Nord Stream, Nord Stream AG, reported that the destruction of gas pipelines was unprecedented and it was impossible to estimate the timing of repairs. The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia initiated a case on an act of international terrorism.
American journalist, Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh published his investigation on February 8, in which, citing a source, he stated that explosive devices under Russian gas pipelines were planted in June 2022 under the cover of Baltops exercises by US Navy divers with the support of Norwegian specialists . According to Hersh, the decision to launch the operation was made by US President Joe Biden after nine months of discussions with administration officials involved in national security issues. Later, the Pentagon said that the United States had nothing to do with the undermining of Russian gas pipelines.
