
MOSCOW, July 11 The possibilities of quantum communications (QC) allow creating secure communication channels based on quantum key distribution, says the report «Quantum technologies for government and business: present and future» available. The report was prepared by experts from the Roscongress Foundation, the Russian Quantum Center, OOO SP Kvant, Russian Railways, and the Moscow government.
«Quantum communications is a field of knowledge and technologies related to the transfer of quantum states in space. One of the areas of QC is the creation of secure communication channels based on quantum key distribution — a method for protecting transmitted information using QC technologies, which allows guaranteed data protection from compromise and unauthorized access,» analysts say.
They explain that «this technology uses quantum physical phenomena to automatically generate a cryptographic key from legitimate remote users, for example, using photons in fiber optic lines or over free space.»
«At the same time, an attacker cannot quietly eavesdrop on the key or forge it. The strength of the key is guaranteed by the fundamental laws of physics, and encryption is carried out by classical algorithms,» the report concludes.
