Opposition leader Maksim Katz filed a lawsuit against the capital's department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation. Information about this «Mediazona» found in the file cabinet of the Moscow courts.
The day before, on July 12, the case was submitted to the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow. Katz told Mediazona that the agency «wrote a completely inadequate response» to his lawsuit to challenge the status of a «foreign agent.» Representatives of the opposition learned about this review on June 6 during the consideration of the lawsuit in the capital's Khoroshevsky District Court.
As stated in the text defence suit, dignity and business reputation, the department's recall said that Katz was under «influence from foreign sources» in the course of his political activities. In addition, the Ministry of Internal Affairs wrote that the oppositionist was spreading “inaccurate information about special military operation ”, acts in the interests of Ukraine, promotes “anti-Russian views” and “discredits” the army.
“In the form of presentation, semantic content, the contested information does not have the nature of a value judgment, they lack verbal constructions expressing uncertainty, doubts, and the likelihood of the statement made. <…> These statements have no factual basis, ”the politician’s lawsuit says.
The Ministry of Justice declared Maxim Katz a «foreign agent» in July 2022. In the column on sources of funding, the department indicated Ukraine. The politician was fined twice for not being labeled “foreign agent” on social media, in December 2022 and June 2023.
A criminal case has also been initiated against the oppositionist on military «fake news» (clause «e» of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) because of the YouTube video about the murders in Bucha. The case is being considered in the Basmanny District Court of Moscow, the politician is wanted and arrested in absentia.
