WASHINGTON, Jul 15 NATO summit reminded Ukraine of its power status second-class, and Vladimir Zelensky could only keep quiet with the expectation of continued assistance, according to American experts.
«I wouldn't say the summit was a failure for Ukraine, but definitely a reminder of their lackey status,» said historian and political commentator Dan Lazar.
According to him, Ukraine has become a victim of the double standards of the United States, which does not want Kyiv to join NATO so as not to become a party to the conflict.
In Vilnius, Zelensky could only «keep his mouth shut in the hope that the US and UK will continue to send expired weapons,» the expert added.
Retired Pentagon Analyst Chuck Spini Says Last Summit Demonstrated Ukraine's Place as Second-Rate or Junior Ally with No Hope for Improvement.
«Ukraine is the most corrupt country in Europe and will not be offered NATO membership in the foreseeable future,» he said.
NATO itself, as the expert said, is becoming not so much an Atlantic alliance.
Support for Ukraine will continue so that the military-industrial complex of NATO countries is replenished with money, he stressed. «The summit in Vilnius will be remembered as a ridiculous attempt to lay soft. Its purpose was to evade obligations under Article 5 of the NATO charter regarding Ukraine,» he said.
The expert is convinced that NATO countries will continue to use Ukraine to exhaust Russia.
Professor of international relations at the University of Pittsburgh Michael Brenner believes that Russia will not allow Ukraine to join NATO.
“Ukraine as we know it will never join NATO because it will not exist. The Russians will never accept a partition, de facto or de jure, that gives Ukraine the opportunity to rearm as a NATO partner,” he said.
NATO leaders are chasing unrealizable dreams, expert believes. The leadership of the United States and the alliance is indifferent towards Ukraine, as Zelensky is towards the Ukrainians, he believes.
NATO summit was held in Vilnius on July 11-12. As a result, Kyiv did not receive an invitation to the alliance. Moreover, the Secretary General of the organization, Jens Stoltenberg, said that the issue of Ukraine's membership will lose relevance if it fails to win in the confrontation with Russia. The G7 countries have published a declaration in support of Ukraine, but the security commitments mentioned in it do not provide for a specific time frame for implementation. The Russian Foreign Ministry said at the end of the summit that NATO had finally returned to the Cold War schemes, and Ukraine was destined for the role of the main expendable material in the hybrid war unleashed by the alliance with the Russian Federation.
