MOSCOW, July 15Students from Irkutsk have developed a unique drone that can extinguish fires using artificial intelligence systems, the press service of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) platform operator said.
The work on the drone was carried out as part of the acceleration program of the federal project «University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform».
«Students of the Irkutsk National Research Technical University are testing a hybrid-type aircraft drone equipped with an artificial intelligence system for extinguishing fires,» the NTI said.
The drone will fly along a predetermined route and, thanks to artificial intelligence, distinguish between a campfire of tourists or metal heated by the sun and a source of ignition. After collecting information, the drone sends the data to a remote monitoring center.
According to the developers, the drone has unique technical characteristics for a fire-detecting drone: students have combined aerodynamic efficiency, the ability to have short takeoff and landing on rough terrain, and the simplicity of design, manufacture and piloting. The drone will be further developed.
