The Zyuzinsky District Court of Moscow arrested Antonin Omariyev, a local activist and supporter of Alexei Navalny, for 13 days. This was reported by OVD-Info with reference to lawyer Alan Kachmazov.
Omariyev was found guilty of disobeying a policeman (Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). According to OVD-Info, the case against the Muscovite was opened because of «actions during the search» at his house.
On July 14, members of the Investigative Committee searched the homes of Navalny's supporters in Tambov, Moscow, Tver, and Smolensk. In the capital, the security forces came to Omariyev — after a search, they took him for interrogation to the Investigative Committee, and then detained him. OVD-Info reported that a lawyer was not allowed to see the activist. The searches were carried out as part of cases under several articles, including an article on organizing the activities of an extremist community (Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code).
According to TASS with reference to law enforcement agencies, earlier Omariyev «was repeatedly detained for participating in unsanctioned rallies.» On the website of the Moscow courts there are cards of administrative cases against Omariyev under the «rally» article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses — in particular, in 2019, the activist was arrested for 15 days due to a protest against the denial of independent candidates for elections to the Moscow City Duma.
In addition, Omariyev participated in the collection of signatures for the nomination of oppositionist Lyubov Sobol for elections to the Moscow City Duma. The activist was one of those who were attacked during the collection of signatures — on June 22, 2019, unknown persons poured feces on Omariyev and another member of the Sobol team. Then the provocateurs also doused the cubes themselves to collect signatures.
In 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized Navalny’s structures — his network of campaign headquarters and publishing investigations about officials — as “extremist organizations.” As a result, the oppositionist's associates left Russia, several former headquarters coordinators were detained and charged under extremist articles, some of them have already been convicted. Now in IK-6 of the Vladimir region, where opposition leader Alexei Navalny is located, meetings are being held behind closed doors as part of his case on an extremist community. Together with him, Daniel Kholodny is accused in the case.
