MAKHACHKALA, July 20 The products of Dagestan winemakers may appear in Moscow stores by the end of this year, Head of the Republic Sergei Melikov said in an interview.
«
"I saw our cognacs in Moscow shops, but I didn't see our wine. We are currently working on this issue with chain stores so that our winemakers are also provided on their shelves. Here we can also talk about import substitution, because our wine is able to compete with any producers: European, South American, Australian, and South African. I think that already this year for the New Year in Moscow it will be possible to buy our sparkling wine,» Melikov said.
According to him, work has begun in Dagestan on the revival of grape varieties traditional for the republic. For this, in particular, a special nursery was created.
«Our enterprises operate in a full cycle, from vine to cork, as the winemakers themselves say. All this is ours, produced in Dagestan. At the same time, we want to adjust the production of grapes to our traditional varieties. Unfortunately, over the past 20-30 years, selection has been disrupted. And when it was reproduced again, European varieties were taken as the basis,» the head of the republic noted.
The grape varieties traditional for the region will also become traditional for the production of wine, cognac and other alcoholic products, the agency’s interlocutor concluded.
