MOSCOW, July 21 The Bank of Russia is not going to introduce additional restrictions in the field of cash, sanctions make card payments more difficult for Russians, but the regulator is working in this direction, said the head of the Central Bank Elvir and Nabiullina during a press conference.
On Thursday, the United States and Canada imposed sanctions against Tinkoff Bank, and Loko-Bank, Solidarity Bank, St. Petersburg Social Commercial Bank (PSKB), Unistream Bank and other legal entities also fell under US blocking sanctions. After that, Tinkoff announced that its Union Pay cards would stop working abroad on July 21, advised customers abroad to withdraw cash as soon as possible. At the same time, Solidarity Bank, despite being included in the sanctions list, continues to issue and service Union Pay cards in the regular mode. Ullina warned about the risks of foreign currency deposits»>
“We are not going to introduce any temporary additional restrictions. There is no reason for this,” Nabiullina said, answering a question about whether the Central Bank wants to impose currency restrictions against the background of the fact that sanctions on Union Pay cards of some Russian banks will force people to take more cash with them when traveling.
Nabiullina noted that «difficulties with payments, of course, exist.» «When such sanctions are applied, it becomes more difficult for ordinary people to make settlements, including for travel services,» she added.
The Bank of Russia works «with many countries,» discussing the possibility of accepting Mir cards or using other payment systems instead of them, to make it more convenient for Russian citizens. «But, of course, there is a problem, we see it, the consequences of the sanctions,» she concluded. >
