According to the publication «Caucasian Knot», the murder took place in the city of Mozdok in May last year. At the trial, the corporal said that the ex-wife, whose name was Emma Karkusova, herself attacked him. Bitarov claimed that he had stabbed the woman in self-defense.
In addition, the corporal was going to provide the court with a dictaphone recording, allegedly confirming the «immoral behavior» of the murdered. This is not the first known case when a security official or a military man is given a lenient sentence for domestic violence.
