UN, Jul 21Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, showed at a meeting of the UN Security Council in figures that Russia's contribution to ensuring global food security is more than four times greater than the contribution of Ukraine.
«Let's compare the indicators of grain production in Russia and Ukraine over the past year. In Ukraine, it amounted to about 55 million tons of grain, of which 47 million tons were exported. At the same time, the share of wheat is only 17 million tons. In Russia, 156 million tons of grain were harvested, of which we exported 60 million tons, including 48 million tons of wheat,» Polyansky said.
At the same time, he stressed that Russia exported «not thanks to the 'grain deal', but in spite of the obstacles» that were created for Moscow.
«Thus, simple arithmetic clearly demonstrates that Russia occupies 20% of the world wheat market, Ukraine's share is less than 5%. So who plays a big role in global food security,» Polyansky asked the members of the UN Security Council.
“Add Russian-produced fertilizers to wheat, and the picture becomes even clearer. Experts understand everything perfectly,” he added.
According to the diplomat, none of those who today are shouting that «Russia is allegedly» starving the whole world «has lifted a finger even to ensure the gratuitous supply of Russian mineral fertilizers under the auspices of the UN.
«»Since the announcement of this purely humanitarian initiative in September 2022, out of 262,000 tons of products blocked in Latvia, Estonia, Belgium and the Netherlands, only two batches have been sent with great difficulty — 20 thousand tons to Malawi and 34 thousand to Kenya,» Polyansky emphasized.
