LUHANSK, Jul 24 line of contact on the Krasnolimansky sector of the front, said a soldier of the 63rd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vitaliy Sery, who was captured while trying to recapture Ukrainian positions.
«We were raised by a senior lieutenant, he said, readiness number one, although we were not in battle, we were all the time in the rear. At 9 o'clock in the morning we left … We went to the headquarters, we were told that the Russians had attacked, recaptured positions, dugouts … We went for the first time, we did not understand what would happen,» the soldier said, recalling the day when he was transferred from the rear area to the front line as part of an assault group.
He clarified that his group, commanded by a senior soldier, was instructed to recapture the positions occupied by Russian fighters. According to the prisoner, none of the members of the group had experience of assault operations until that day.
«We reached the point of dismounting, walked 50 meters — and they began to «cover» (fire at — ed.) mortars, and seriously «cover» us. One of our arms was immediately torn off, two were shell-shocked, we walked only 500 meters, «said the prisoner.
According to him, after the shelling, the rest of the group managed to run to the nearest dugout. The prisoner clarified that the Ukrainian militants, who did not have experience in assault operations, were only fleeing from the attacks of the Russian army, which itself was attacking in this area at that moment. The Ukrainian serviceman added that when the senior soldier was refused when he tried to request artillery support from the command.
«We ran into the first trench, there were several of our people, they started covering us from a tank, a tank, a mortar and an AGS (automatic grenade launcher easel — ed.), it was heard from afar. They asked for artillery support. We asked for support on the radio, the senior soldier asked for artillery support. «Be patient!», they told us. , seven of them were wounded, with shrapnel,» the Ukrainian soldier explained.
According to him, after the arrival of another grenade, it was decided to surrender.
«The guys shouted: 'Come out with your hands up and you'll live.' I threw out the machine gun and climbed up to them, and after five to ten minutes three more people came out, the rest died,» the prisoner said.
The situation in the Krasnolimansky direction in the Donbass remains difficult, positional battles are going on in some areas. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are making unsuccessful attempts at offensive operations in the Donetsk, Krasnolymansk, Yuzhno-Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions.
